From the beginning, students are led through a process that shows them how to clearly evaluate how they've played:
What was correct, what was incorrect, and what to address first.

Over time your clarinetist is provided with many approaches and tools that allow them to practice effectively.

Knowing that they're improving each time they practice makes it easier for young people to balance their academic, athletic, and musical goals.  Success in music goes hand in hand with academic and athletic success.

Recognizing that all art is expression, I invite each young musician to make choices about how they're going to express the music through the study of etudes and pieces.

There aren't exact answers in the realm of the aesthetic, and that's frequently uncomfortable for kids today.

I'm not showing young musicians how I express the music:  I want them to make their own choices, and to grow with that experience.

The goal isn't perfection.

It's better than perfection:

it's expressive performance.

Through the process of improving fundamentals, practicing, auditioning, and performing, I help each studio member adopt a growth mindset.

Challenges become opportunities to grow, effort is understood to be more important than talent, success isn't determined by a chair placement in an ensemble, and another's greatness doesn't diminish our own greatness.

When these concepts are in place, there's a lot of opportunity to become great!
