James Tobin is a performer and instructor in Charlottesville, Virginia.

I am the principal clarinetist of the Waynesboro Symphony Orchestra and have performed with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, the Quad Cities Symphony, Ash Lawn Opera, Opera on the James, The Oratorio Society of Virginia, and the Virginia Consort.  I've been guest performer with the Albemarle Ensemble and I frequently perform with the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia.  I have been featured several times in the Concerts at Cove summer chamber series and as soloist with the Charlottesville Municipal Band.

I love teaching and helping people grow!  I have a large studio and provide clinics and masterclasses throughout Central Virginia.  I often provide outreach to schools on behalf of the Charlottesville Symphony Preludes program.

To enable young clarinetists I founded the Youth Orchestra of Central Virginia Clarinet Ensemble, whose goal is to introduce young musicians to chamber music.  More information on the YOCVA Clarinet Ensemble can be found here:   https://www.yocva.org/
